Evaluation of Anti-pyretic Potential of Ichnocarpus Frutescens Roots
Authors
Abstract:
The methanol extract of Ichnocarpus frutescens R.Br. root (MEIF) was evaluated for its anti-pyretic potential on normal body temperature and yeast-induced pyrexia in albino rats. Yeast suspension (10 ml/kg body wt.) increased rectal temperature 19 h after subcutaneous injection. The MEIF, at doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg body wt., p.o., produced significant reduction in normal body temperature and yeast-provoked elevated temperature in a dose dependent manner. The effect extended up to 5 h after the drug administration. The anti-pyretic effect of MEIF was comparable to that of paracetamol (150 mg/kg body wt., p.o.), a standard anti-pyretic agent.

full textEvaluation of anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, and anti-pyretic potential of hydroalcoholic extract of Trifolium pratense in mice
Introduction: There are some reports in traditional medicine concerning the anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive and anti-pyretic effects of Trifolium pretense (red clover). The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of hydroalcoholic extract of red clover inflammation, pain and fever in male mice. Methods: In this experimental study, 120 male mice were classified into twenty 6-me...

The roots of Ichnocarpus frutescens (L) R.Br. (Apocynaceae) are used in indigenous system of medicine. The present study on phytochemical characteristics of root powder, namely behavior with different chemical reagents, fluorescent behaviour, extractive values, colour and consistency and qualitative phytochemical studies are useful for identification and conformation of its authenticity.

Hexane, chloroform and aqueous extracts from Hemidesmus indicus and Ichnocarpus frutescens roots were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity. The chloroform extract of both plants showed antibacterial and antifungal activities against the tested organisms. Both the plants showed highest antibacterial and antifungal activity against Eschericia coli and Aspergillus flavus respectively. With i...

The present study was carried out to evaluate the anticonvulsant activity and probable mechanism of action of the methanol root extract from I. frutescens (MEIF) using different experimental animal models. Anticonvulsant activity of the single dose of MEIF (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg, p.o.) was evaluated in maximal electroshock- (MES-), pentylenetetrazole- (PTZ-), and isoniazid- (INH-) induced con...
